I would like your opinion on the various ...EQ Guy,

I would like your opinion on the various articles going around the web based on what Romania's top seismologist Gheorghe Marmureanu has said. He explains that this is very unusual and one quote is,

"There is no doubt that something is seriously wrong. There have been too many strong earthquakes,” said Marmureanu. “The quakes are a surprise that cannot be easily explained by current scientific knowledge. With the Indonesian quake for example, statistically, there should be one big earthquake in this part of Asia every 500 years. However, since 2004, there were already three quakes with a magnitude of over 8, which is not normal."

I did some research yesterday which the results can be found on my blog, but here is a copy and paste from there, "I have ran my own report based upon the number of earthquakes of magnitude 5 and above that occurred from the 11th of April to the 16th of April, and compared that with the average annual number of earthquakes (5 and above) from the USGS site. Annually there are 1469 earthquakes of magnitude 5 and above. That is an average of four a day. Over a six day period, which is 24 earthquakes is what we should expect. For the six day period in question, there were a total of 69 magnitude 5 and above earthquakes. That is getting near triple the average which is a bit unusual."

Do you think this is normal activity based around the initial Northern Samatra quakes that started this?

Laron
transients.infoLaronhttp://www.transients.infonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6198301599235644429.post-70536451778353035792012-04-14T13:42:15.233-05:002012-04-14T13:42:15.233-05:00For some reason i have been doing alot of research...For some reason i have been doing alot of research in the last few days regarding eartquakes, studying the worldwide EQ map.
