4.8 Argentina, 4.6 Italy Near Mt. Vesuvius Volcano, and Site Of December 28, 1908 Messina Earthquake And Tsunami

Unless something more major comes along on Monday, here is the information I want to discuss in todays EQ Blog. First I noticed the 4.8 Argentina Earthquake is quite a distance from the usual shaky places that are normally the epicenters out along the Pacific Ocean Coast of South America. A close look revealed this Argentina Epicenter seems to be far to the east even of that mountain range there, possibly the Andes. Not sure if this means our alert for Peru could extend too far beyond Lima, but with this Argentina shaker. . . it makes me wonder if a Major Earthquake could strike Argentina and how big the earthquakes could get on that side of those mountains?

Now onto Italy where there was also a 4.6 and nevermind that Italy shook at 15:43 and Argentina shook at 16:13 or exactly Half-Hour apart because I believe I have more than discussed the fact that we happen to be watching both places and the two probably are connected and of course happen to be very nearly the same magnitude, too! What I found the most remarkable about the epicenter of Sundays Italy Earthquake first was that it is the same date as the famous Messina, Italy Earthquake of 1908 that was a 7.1 with a 39 Foot Tsunami and over 100,000 killed.

Most of you don't need me to tell you about Mt. Vesuvius, either. The year was 79 A.D. and the place was just south of Naples, Italy near a town called Pompeii. Measured it out from the epicenter of the Sunday earthquake and came out to about 150 miles south of Mt. Vesuvius. I guess you could say that I just had to mention that. Up to this point I might not have said anything about an alert for Mt. Vesuvius to erupt, or for a repeat of the Messina, Italy Earthquake of December 28, 1908, but I suppose we should now keep an eye on those two places as well as now Argentina because these are all places along the line of an upcoming Major Earthquake and we are on Day 21 with Day 23 following the landfall of Super Typhoon Nanmadol in December 2004 being the date of the Sumatra Earthquake!

I should probably mention the fact that there was also a small 1.5 at New Jersey and a 1.4 just north of there at New Hampshire just in case something starts to shake in those regions and we can be watching, but that's hardly the start to a major one, so we will just make a note of it for now.

Don't forget to be watching San Francisco, California, and West Coast for an earthquake, too!!! Thank-You Again For Reading!!! EQ Guy
