Yes, there's at least one really big earthquake to write about today, but first I promised to run a pic that I took with the light of that Super Full Moon last week! Now this has been enhanced just a little using whatever effects were available to me on the "Windows Photo Gallery" Application, but you can still notice the streetlight in the background and it was exactly that fact that you can see my neighborhood LIT-UP so much that is why I decided to take some pics and post this one in particular: NOW onto the usual EQ Blog stuff for Monday:
There's more about this earthquake later in todays blog, and never turned out to be too much of a tsunami as might be thought on this big of a shaker! Did hear word of small tsunami at the immediate area near the epicenter but no big alert for anybody else ever happened. Link below to a story with more official information about that subject, now the USGS Report:

From "Stuff New Zealand" website: "The quake knocked items off shelves and caused a blackout in the town of Kokopo in northeastern Papua New Guinea, Taranu said. But there were no reports of widespread damage in the town. Shortly after the quake, New Zealand's Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management (MCDEM) issued a tsunami warning for all coastal areas, including the Chatham Islands. However at 1.20am on Sunday, that was cancelled" Link: FROM: http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/south-pacific/87687775/Powerful-quake-hits-east-of-Papua-New-Guinea-tsunami-warning-for-NZ-cancelled
Here's a list that might need updating because there's a lot of earthquakes there. I've gone and updated it late Sunday due to my phone ringing just about the whole day with more and more earthquakes in this region although Bougainville showed up a few times and it could be beyond the map where these are taken from. Just Papua New Guinea alone makes this a good sized list and having now checked it looks like Bougainville is the name of one of those big islands in the PNG Group:

Although there've been a lot of these earthquakes at Mammoth Lakes, this one generated a felt report and is pretty much up-to-date because it's now been half a day since it shook there! Watch Calfornia for more:
3.1 - 3km ESE of Mammoth Lakes, California

THIS Hawaii Shaker was several miles to the south of where all the earthquakes there normally shake as far as I know, and kind of a big one, too! Maybe this is where their next big earthquake will strike:
4.4 - 76km SSE of Hawaiian Ocean View, Hawaii
2016-12-18 16:30:32 UTC
Nearby Places:
Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii, 82 Miles SSW, Pop. 11,404
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, 89.2 Miles SSE, Pop. 11,975
Honolulu, Hawaii, 250.1 Miles SE, Pop. 371,657
And there is a fairly good Felt Report from that Hawaii Earthquake, but of course it's basically just all the towns around the "Big Island" or whichever island all this happened at as you can probably tell just by the list of "Nearby Places" there! Might have to wait till my next EQ Blog to discuss the felt report in more length because this blog is going to press right this moment. Thank-You For Reading!!! EQ Guy
