I've noticed this now and then over the years and until just recently didn't actually have a good reason to write the USGS and explain it. Last week I had some time and sent an E-Mail concerning this what has been known to be a problem now and then, and here's an example along with the results of my submission!!!!! So here's one with the mileage TO Anchorage posted at the top, or "West of" and NOT in agreement with the mileage to Anchorage given in the list of nearby places or "12 Miles EAST" and I have already modified this to read "East IS" Anchorage (Because it's clearly not "East OF" Anchorage:
1.4 - 20km W of Anchorage, Alaska
2018-12-27 15:28:14 (UTC) 45.1 km depth
Nearby Places
11.7 Miles ESE is Turnagain Heights, Alaska
12.7 Miles East is Anchorage, Alaska
24.3 Miles ENE is Eagle River, Alaska
29.4 Miles NE is Knik-Fairview, Alaska
512.3 mi) East is Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
HERE'S the message that came back via "Auto Reply" when I submitted all this to the USGS last week!!! I might have known, but didn't have a clue till this came in!!! "This is an automatic reply from NAME EDITED: Due to the lapse in appropriations, I am prohibited from conducting work as a Federal employee, including returning phone calls and emails, until further notice. If you urgently need to speak with someone at the USGS regarding emergencies or matters of protecting life and property, call (703) 555-1000 or (703) 555-0000. (Numbers Edited, Too) For more information on the shutdown, please visit the Department of the Interior website at www.doi.gov." AND you're up-to-date on what's going on with the government:) NOW Let's move on. . .
One more still. . . shaking Anchorage!!! This is a different 3.3 from the above one with the felt report, this one had no felt report although probably due to being further up near Big Lake and a few hours later than the other 3.3 there:
3.3 - 12km SSE of Big Lake, Alaska
2018-12-27 22:09:45 (UTC) 29.4 km depth
I would say they've been getting a lot of shaking and so I looked up alerts that could still be active and found a Typhoon Yutu that first made landfall at Philippines, then China, and even before both of those. . . made landfall at a place called Saipan and one other island there! All the way in October and the 24th was one of the key dates, there. So another key date will be December 29, 2018 because that's Day 60 after all those landfalls and could be a significant date, and according to my "Earthquake Alert Theory". . . things could continue to shake up that region all the way to Mid-January or Day 76 the day I currently give off chase of such movement of Tectonic Plates!!! Although with science keeping up with this sort of movement, we'll have to wait and see if it appears reason to keep watching Anchorage beyond Mid-January!!! For now, no worries!!! Good Weekend, Now!!!
