In Case You Didn't Hear This One. . . 5.9 Richters Earthquake Struck Offshore From North Korea!!! Felt Report AND List of Nearby Places ALL Seem To Be North Korea, Too!!!!! ALSO a 6.4 New Guinea Earthquake!!!

I suppose it is looking like the really biggest news today in Earthquakes is not this here story that I'm running first, so much as the one that follows. Mostly just that way because this much bigger one came in although not much more to say about a big 6.4 Richters New Ireland/PNG Earthquake with no tsunami to speak of. Then just a short note again that these folks who posted felt reports posted these at our own USGS here in the states and does not reflect actual number of people who might have felt this over in PNG:

6.4 - 38km SSE of Taron, Papua New Guinea

Rabaul, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea...1...136 km

AND oh yes, now I recall having seen this one posted somewhere at some point on Wednesday!!! Maybe it came to my cell phone in the form of a Twitter Message at some point during the day!!!

119 Miles ESE Sŭngam-nodongjagu, North Korea Pop. 11,406
119.5 mi) ESE of Kyŏngsŏng, North Korea Pop. 35,604

And this is the felt report with a lot of the same towns as the above list of nearby places, maybe. . . but I didn't actually go all through both lists and compare all the names. Now updated for the fact that there were now 2 felt reports in from Pyongyang:

5.9 - 180km ESE of Hoemul-li, North Korea

Just saying it looks like there was a rather notable 3.7 at Montana late yesterday and that would have been at 40 minutes after midnight my time, or Central Time and proably then something like 11:40pm Mountain Time and a 3.3 just ahead of noon Central Time on Thursday so let's watch Montana to see what might happen next, now:

2.7 6km SW of Lincoln, Montana 2017-07-13 18:02
2.4 14km SE of Lincoln, Montana 2017-07-13 14:49

1.1 14km ESE of Lincoln, Montana 2017-07-12 20:21

And here's the felt report from that 3.7 because I went back and checked it upon noticing that one on the above list:

3.7 - 14km SE of Lincoln, Montana
2017-07-13 05:40:08 UTC 46.864°N 112.544°W 10.6 km depth

Bozeman, MT 59715 United States of America....1....181 km
Clark Fork, ID 83811 United States of America...1....313 km

As I'm about to now post this EQ Blog, had to weigh whether this one was worthy of placing it in today. . . but a look at this felt report tells you, yes!!!

2.3 - 5km W of El Segundo, CA
2017-07-13 10:36:51 UTC 33.916°N 118.472°W 13.2 km depth

Los Angeles, CA 90049 United States of America.....1....23 km
South Pasadena, CA 91030 United States of America..1....38 km

And then the list of nearby places which would normally lead and be a part of the whole USGS Report on an earthquake, but today I mostly just want to use it to illustrate where we're talking about here. . . because I already know where this epicenter is, just saying:

Nearby Places:
3.1 Miles West of El Segundo, CA
4.3 Miles WNW of Manhattan Beach, CA
4.3 Miles SSW of Marina del Rey, CA
5.6 Miles Northwest of Hermosa Beach, CA
6.8 Miles Northwest of Redondo Beach, CA

While there are some other alerts going on and we just missed a fairly big Hurricane off the shore of the Eastern Pacific when it ran into warmer waters, or probably cooler waters more towards California than the more equatorial waters of the Central America Region, my main concern right now is when and how big San Francisco will shake!!! I'll keep watching all of California and if you're in that region be prepared for this one!!! Good Weekend, Everybody!!! EQ Guy
