Typhoon Nesat Made Landfall at Taiwan With Some Wind Gusts Coming In At Over 100 Miles Per Hour There!!! Also, Yet Another Shaker Up Around Eureka, California, Too!!!

So, were starting out todays EQ Blog with that 5.1 Northern California Earthquake probably the one we were watching for mostly due to me having said 5.1 "In an effort to get the magnitude exact" as I had said on my local radio show!!! I want to add today that the date I had posted on that Official Prediction was only based on the New Moon and not one of the dates that correlated there. If you perhaps measure off the Tuesday date which was the correlation with Typhoon Roke and 5.3 Coos Bay in 2011 at Tuesday, July 25th, 4:42pm Central Time, or 2:42pm Pacific Time you'll come out at 3 days off with the 5.1 on Friday after the show was over!!! Magnitude Exactly RIGHT!!! But what can I say, I've been fairly good at "Dialing In" the Magnitudes over the years, anyways!!!

Not so much of an aftershock to the big one near Eureka on Friday, but another one in that region and the felt report will have to also be sort of a list of nearby places, too:

4.6 - 106km WNW of Eureka, California
2017-07-29 17:08:26 UTC 41.075°N 125.330°W 24.3 km depth

City......State.Zip.USA................................#.....Km
Samoa, CA 95564 United States of America......1....102 km
Eureka, CA 95501 United States of America.....5....106 km
McKinleyville, CA 95519 United States........13....112 km
Eureka, CA 95503 United States of America.....9....114 km
Arcata, CA 95521 United States of America....20....114 km
Korbel, CA 95550 United States of America.....1....136 km
Crescent City, CA 95531 United States.........1....138 km

Note that I am starting to get some confidence that we may be able to start relaxing as far as all the shaking in California is concerned! Although the details are not all in on the Typhoon that just made landfall, we had been watching for that 5.1 and maybe this 4.6 was an aftershock, and that could be now very close to the end of it and the end of it was eventually going to come, anyways so this could be it! Let's keep watching California a few more days yet, and go from there!

So the landfall of Typhoon Nesat with latest windspeed being reported at: Winds 90mph and Gusts 110, with 600mm of Rain in Pingtung County, Taiwan struck there at around 6am Central Time on Friday. This will now be yet another at least somewhat serious alert to come. . . for now here's that track we'll be watching:
Here's the transcript from Fridays "Earthquake Minute" albeit happening before the earthquake we're now talking about@ http://earthquakealert3.blogspot.com/2017/07/mammoth-lakes-earthquake-minute-for.html

Here's one where the name is famous for being half a Spanish name. . . and half an English name!!! Can you tell which is which at this epicenter:

1.9 - 3km SE of Buena Park, CA
2017-07-29 14:37:12 UTC 33.850°N 117.973°W 13.3 km depth

Nearby Places.
1.9 Miles Southeast of Buena Park, CA
3.1 Miles Southwest of Fullerton, CA
3.7 Miles NNE of Stanton, CA
4.3 mi) East of La Palma, CA

Does look like things might be slowing at Mammoth Lakes although when I filtered it to just 2.5 and larger only ONE comes up for July 30 and it will probably be July 31 by time you are reading this:

2.5 17km SS of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-30 20:38
3.0 11km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-29 20:01
2.5 24km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-29 18:07
2.6 16km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-29 18:05
2.8 25km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-29 18:00
2.6 24km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-28 19:48
2.5 16km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-27 20:28
2.6 24km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-26 10:31
2.9 18km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-26 09:26
2.8 18km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-24 12:45
2.8 23km SE of Mammoth Lakes, California 2017-07-23 21:29

There was also a 3.1 Ridgley, Tennessee Earthquake late on Sunday that I'm right now watching the felt reports because so far they are looking like mostly from EAST of the Mississippi River there! Probably possible, and probably if so then due to that river acting as a fault line dividing the shaking and maintaining most of it on the east side of the river. . . however a few distant ones on the west side would suggest the population disparity might have something to do with it.

Still keep an eye on California and in my next EQ Blog I'll try to have some idea where all the new Earthquake Energy from that landfall at Taiwan will be a headed!!! And just noticed there was a 4.5 Richters Shaker right there at Offshore Taiwan the day before that landfall and that probably means some shaking coming!!! EQ Guy
