Now looking at 3 earthquakes which have struck Stuarts Draft, Virginia and I personally do not have enough experience to say this is a possible cause of concern for one of my big alerts for earthquake East Coast where we're watching for result of lot of big landfalling windstorms!!  First a quick look at those recent shakers with respect to the fact that no others anywhere East Coast!!!
2.2  0 km NNE of Stuarts Draft, Virginia 2023-10-23 16:04:28 (UTC-05:00)
2.4  2 km NW of Stuarts Draft, Virginia 2023-10-22 03:10:19 (UTC-05:00)
2.2  2 km NW of Stuarts Draft, Virginia 2023-10-15 17:19:57 (UTC-05:00)
As the days pass and no really big earthquake shakes our East Coast I have reviewed all the big windstorms that preceded 1886 Charleston which I personally discovered one day in my extensive research phase, and here's what I found. . . . .

Hurricane One-Landfall on June 14, 1886 at High Island, Texas with a wind registered at 100 mph!

Hurricane Two-Similar to path of Idalia 2023 with landfall on June 21 at St. Marks, Florida, CAT-2, then traveled through the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic States to 70 miles Southeast of New York City June 23.

Hurricane 3-Same Path as Hurricane Idalia with landfall June 30, 1886 at Indian Pass, Florida and dissipated Maryland on July 2, 1886.  Earthquake was Day 62 after this event.

Hurricane 4-Landfall at Ozello, Florida on July 19, 1886, Then Turned!!!  And that earthquake was on Day 43 after this event!!

Hurricane 5-This one made landfall at Indianola, Texas with CAT-3, 150 mph winds on August 20, 1886.

Hurricane 6-Originally made a landfall on August 19, 1886 at Jamaica with 1000's trees and 300 homes destroyed. Cuba on August 21 CAT-3, and by August 27, 1886 had reached Newfoundland three days before the earthquake!

THAT was when I began to notice quite a similar list of landfalling big windstorms probably including both Tropical Storms, and some Hurricanes and at least one most notable for being remains of a hurricane and making landfall as something less than a T.S. or Hurricane such as I believe Ophilia.  Here's what I have:

Ophelia landfall at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina on September 22, 2023 winds 70, Gusts 80mph,

Hurricane Hilary landfall at near Ensenada, Mexico on August 20, 2023 winds 130, gusts 145mph,

Tropical Storm Franklin landfall at Dominican Republic on August 23, 2023 with winds 60, gusts 70 mph,

Hurricane Idalia landfall at Big Bend, Florida on August 30, 2023 with winds 130, gusts 160 mph,

Hurricane Lidia landfall at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on October 10, 2023 winds 140, gusts 160 mph,

Hurricane Tammy landfall at Barbuda on October 21, 2023 winds 80 mph,

Hurricane Norma landfall at far Southern Tip of Baja California on October 21, 2023

THOSE that preceded Charleston in 1886 numbered around six, although there were some other landfalls in that year not looking like they'd affect our East Coast, and any number of other big windstorms including at least one Super Typhoon during these Summer of 2023 as listed numbered seven and with the most recent 2 being Tammy and Norma, am writing today to say we should still watch because I submit to you all today the potential ingrediants for what could come to be called biggest East Coast Earthquake such as was a 6.0 Boston Earthquake in 1755 and of course the 1638 6.5 Vermont, New Hampshire Earthquake and some others I'm sure, tells me we could or should be about due and I'm now very worried for friends out east!

I'm writing this and submitting it to the Councils on the quick while thinking any minute we could be adding to that list!!!  PLEASE review the information and I might suggest getting an alert out to the millions in that region that they DO GET MAJOR EARTHQUAKES, and one could be coming!  Perhaps some methods of preparation might be in order!  This could especially mean buildings which will NOT be able to withstand too much earthquake energy out there in that region!!

Thank-You Again for attention to my earthquake writings!!!!!

Respectfully Submitted,

Les Brown,
