There was a 3.6 and 3.0 Richters Earthquake at 30 miles Northwest of Ukiah, California near Fort Bragg and when I checked closely there were actually 2 of these within about 30 Seconds of each other and I am not sure why it is listed as two different earthquakes, although I suppose if it was to be considered as ONE Earthquake, then it would have then been one earthquake that shook for about a minute or more! Therefore I can understand it might have been considered as TWO. This is how earthquakes work, folks, they are not always simply one shaking and that's the end of it, no,rather similar to how this series worked they just shake without regard for how the seismologists are going to rate them! This time it was two different ones thirty seconds apart a 3.6 and 3.0 and that's that. Both with felt reports, the 3.6 was felt in Alameda and Big Sur and they were both well within the August Full Moon Window!
Landfall of Hurricane Katrina would have been ten years ago Saturday and Katrina continued on up through Louisiana and into Tennessee if memory serves me correctly. I have just now located one of the E-Mails that I had sent out to my "EQ Alert Group" and notice that the landfall of Hurricane Rita must have followed closely on the heals of Katrina because this letter is dated October 3, 2005 and talks about the line of Earthquake Energy heading up towards Seattle and goes on to say the "Resultant" from Katrina still seems to be out there and this letter says it has been about 33 days and it's dated October 3, 2005. Well, I just went and checked and that earthquake at Islamabad struck a few days later on October 8, 2005 or very late on the evening of October 7, 2005 Central Time!!! I'll run a copy of that E-Mail in a later EQ Blog.
Latest on all the big windstorms going on all around the world is that Tropical Storm Erika is CANCELED and what's left of it is some wind and probably a lot of rain crossing Florida as Hurricane Ignacio threatens to brush Hawaii and now there might possibly even be our next Atlantic Hurricane. . . FRED!!!
Shade balls are being used in the Los Angeles Reservoir and saving 300 Million Gallons of water a year! Yes, something like 20,000 of them floating there and reflecting all the light. . . keeping water from evaporating. You'll have to check out the story@ http://www.accuweather.com/en/features/trend/shade_balls_los_angeles_water/51834017 BUT it makes sense that in the middle of the drought they're having. . . a lot of water would probably otherwise be evaporating! I was wondering if this could help at Lake Mead!? But so much for boating, skiing, and wave runners!
Alerts continue for Russia, Santiago, and The Pacific Islands and that big one we are watching for is currently on Day 26 with Day 31 coming on Saturday and Day 33 on September 7, 2015 so these are going to become much more serious alerts quite similar to the one I discussed above Post-Katrina/Rita! We will be watching for another very serious Major Earthquake the same as we were ten years ago in the days following that huge landfall of Hurricane Katrina!!! EQ Guy
