If you have not read the EQ Blog I posted late last night I'll sum it up by saying the Mammoth Lakes Region of Northern California had a HUGE Swarm that I posted as 115 Richters totaled up to that point last night. Many have been added since that time but the real concern that I want to add to that this morning is the series of earthquakes that have since struck Fontana, California just a half mile south of the California Speedway there near the corner of Cherry Avenue and Valley Blvd. As of this writing they were just small, but total 8.6 Richters for what that's worth. An area that has seen a lot of expansion on my watch and you could say are due for a big one! With now famous Rancho Cucamonga just a mile or so to the north up along the 210. The "L.A. Bottled Water Plant" that you might have heard my story about is only about another mile or two South of there because we routinely hear the cars practicing on the track from our picnic table/break area during the week when they are racing there. And one of our best guys lives over in that Fontana neighborhood either on Cherry Avenue or very near it, too! I suppose something major could let loose there at about any moment, now!!!
Santa Rosa just got a couple but not enough to start calling it a swarm and not quite enough to run into Frisco hollering earthquake, either. . . that could change throughout the day today! And a series of 10 earthquakes as of this writing down in the Virgin Islands that are not that rare, really, just happening at the same time as all these California Shakers and indicate to me there is some huge tectonic plate movement happening here which could go beyond California and strike somewhere like Haiti, or Jamaica, or Montserrat. Please also note that due to all the California stuff going on I am not spending much time discussing the fact that some of this is likely pushing on the Indian Ocean/Australian Tectonic Plate and going who knows where from there so that there could easily be major shakers around Indonesia, Japan or elsewhere that I am not spending much time discussing due to the high risk California is under at the moment!!! In fact Banda Aceh has been mentioned in there somewhere in the last day or so, too.
AFTER a Mammoth Lakes Swarm on November 14, 1997, I found a 7.7 at Kamchatka on Dec. 5, 1997. After a Mammoth Lakes Swarm on August 13, 1993 I found one or two Major Earthquakes at Klamath Falls, Oregon on September 20, 1993 one story said a 5.9 AND a 6.0 Richters. Finally I couldn't help noticing a Major Swarm at Mammoth Lakes dated December 11, 2003!!!!! Of course the Great Paso Robles Earthquake followed that swarm immediately on December 22, 2003 at 6.5 Richters and I didn't even have to look that one up!!! Be Prepared Paso Robles, San Francisco, Eureka and all of Northern California because something Major will probably be shaking in the coming hours and days!!! Also around Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Imperial, Calexico and L.A., too! EQ Guy
