With the landfall of Hurricane Ingrid at the Eastern Coast of Mexico there will now probably be at least somewhat of an earthquake heading for a few places around Mexico. The straight line sort of mostly heads for a town called Mazatlan, but also very near another place named Guadalajara and also San Luis Potosi. Checked several times to make sure Mexico City will not be too involved in this one and it looks like it will not be. Of course there could always be earthquakes so this is not to say Mexico City will not get any earthquakes, rather this new earthquake energy is heading up towards Guadalajara and could be as big as 7 Richters. Earthquakes heading in that direction do not always strike Mexico and could continue out into the Pacific and strike any number of islands offshore or at offshore fault lines, but we should probably watch and be prepared at Guadalajara.
Yesterdays landfall of Man-Yi will almost certainly involve Alaska and will be very close to Anchorage with them probably getting some shakers in the coming days and the September Full Moon Window starting early Wednesday. For right now I want to say this one could be all of 6 Richters, but could go as high as 7.6 Richters and am thinking 6.7 or 6.8 as I believe I said in yesterdays EQ Blog. I'll try to keep around the same range because I'm just stating these numbers as I go along. . . with the size of the windstorm and recalling the landfall.
Just seen 5.4 Georgia on the list and my phone also chimed with it, and I immediately thought a big earthquake just struck near Atlanta!!! Not that unusual because they get a lot of small ones so I just immediately thought 5.4 up around Tennessee. . . I'll just check it out and see how close to Chattanooga that one was. Answer: not close to Chattanooga at all, rather close to Tiblisi on the other side of the earth in Russia. More about earthquakes and that September Full Moon Window tomorrow!!!
