Just a couple miles north of beautiful downtown Sparks, Nevada next door to Reno is where this 4.2 Richters shaker struck tonight with several aftershocks. Phone might have normally chimed with this info. . . except it looks like this one was a little too far into Nevada and my phone only chimes with California Earthquakes. Sometimes it will ring to let me know there was one around the stateline between Nevada and California, but Sparks is too far east, now I know!
Today I only want to add that there are a lot of days left to the one big EQ Alert that we will continue to watch for that one big earthquake that should be lingering out there in the movement of the Indio/Australian Tectonic Plate although I'm not seeing too much in the way of foreshocks telling me any one area in particular. It is odd that California and Nevada is getting a lot of this energy, but hopefully it won't be a player in the grand finale. Some of you might remember there was a log streak of California alerts back when there was a lot of earthquake energy actually HEADING for California. Today there is nothing but the movement of the Pacific Tectonic Plate to watch and not even too much going on there. Landfall of Tropical Storm IVO if you want to call it that and winds in the 40 and 50 mph range just do not generate much more than yesterdays Weldon, California and todays Sparks, Nevada earthquakes. Just have to say that even the actual energy from even that small of one will still not follow until several more days so keep watching those two towns for more 4 and 5 Richters small earthquakes. . . because they might be out there, yet.
AND, I'll just bet there is more movement out at Banda Aceh, Philippines, and New Zealand coming, yet, so let us keep watching out that direction in the coming days. The landfall of Super Typhoon UTOR was serious. . . there could still be some serious earthquake energy out there!!! EQ Guy
