As I was about to write todays EQ Blog about the epicenter of the Whittier Earthquake from whatever year that one was where they had just got a real small earthquake there today, this 3.2 Richters at Powhatan, Virginia must have occurred either just at the end of American Idol on Wednesday Night or during the Chicago Blackhawks vs. Los Angeles Kings NHL Hockey game. Whatever exactly the time was that it managed to come in and I didn't notice it until press time for this EQ Blog, there are now as of this writing a HUGE number of felt reports including 335 Felt Reports from Richmond, Virginia and so far 2 from Washington, DC, and 2 from Silver Springs, Maryland. I had also heard late on Wednesday that there has also been a tornado somewhere and I will have all that info as soon as I get more info about it. For now we are definitely looking at the possibility of MORE earthquakes around the Virginia area with the always out there but very much present chance of a Major Earthquake striking somewhere out there along our East Coast!
So, up to this point, I had been going to tell you about the two and now maybe three small earthquakes that have struck around the California area and especially very near exact epicenters of historic old Major Earthquakes!!! For now those are the Whittier Earthquake, Landers Earthquake and another that just came in just a few miles from the epicenter of the Great Tajon Earthquake! My notes say to mention that the epicenter of the Whittier Narrows Earthquake is only a few hundred feet from the building where I attended classes during my Los Angeles Apprenticeship and the place where that now famous L.A. Apprentice Class Prediction took place! Just measured it on the map of the earthquake and Zoomed-In to see the building is clearly marked "Carpenter Training Center" as if it is still serving that same purpose today that it served back in the days when Les Brown attended classes there!!! Yes, it is located less than 2 miles from that epicenter and actually if memory serves me correctly although I can fact-check this one, too, even much closer to the epicenter of the Whittier Narrows Earthquake!!! (3 Miles, just checked and it was 1987 Magnitude 5.9)
I will now have to have the update that I planned for today. . . tomorrow instead and coincidentally it would have gone on to mention Richmond, Virginia since it is more or less just an update of the usual stuff we are watching for and that list still includes Oklahoma, New Madrid, California and our West Coast/Mexico. . . but remember to continue watching Richmond and Washington, DC!!!
